Web 2.0 Tools for Desktop Publishing

Bookr- E-Books and Online Books      http://www.pimpampum.net/bookr/
Bookr is an online 2.0 tool that can be used to create a photobook online with as many photos as one wants, along with story lines for free! This is a publication that is fairly easy to use once you create an account. I think it could have been developed better with more enhancements, but overall it had well quality. However, I did come across a couple issues on inserting pictures into the story book.  I would use this tool to create a little story with pictures to display online for people to see and yes I would recommend this tool to users that love figuring out new technology and sharing a timeline of photos as a story. I would rate this tool as a 5 on a scale from 1-10.
This is a really fun tool to play with! You get to create online flip books to share or just for enjoyment.  Flipbook was free, but I did not find were one could purchase more advance tools.  I caught on quick to this tool because it was really simple to use.  It took hardly no time to  create a publication with this tool.  Very well developed with decent quality, with no issues with the program as far as I could tell.  I would use this tool just for personal enjoyment to create fun flipbooks. This tool should definitely be rated a 9 out of 10!
For a web 2.0 tool Scratch was a really complicated one to figure out how to use, I would not recommend this tool for anyone.  This publication is used to create cartoons with movements and sounds to share.  You can also create games and much more to share. However, even though this tool is free you can still obtain more perks for the tool.  The tool was really well developed with minor glitches but this is for very experience technology users.  I would use this application to goof off and learn more about create cartoons and games to share online. Scratch is rated a 2 out of 10.
Yoyo Games- Game Creation http://www.yoyogames.com/studio
Unfortunately on this 2.0 tool I could only explore the basic free options on how to create a game, but they were really self-explanatory with some complications. Yoyo games is used to actually create games and game cheats.  Although this tool is rather expensive I would recommend it to gamers and others who like to create mind boggling projects.  It was formatted fantastic with no glitches.  I would rate this tool a 8 out of 10.
Map Builder- Maps http://www.mapbuilder.net/
Map Builder is a quick and easy tool to locate any address or place one wants.  You can be so exact to the longitude and latitude anywhere in North America.  This tool is completely free and easy to use.  Very well developed with no glitches, with a great GPS coordinator.  I would use this tool for quick and easy directions to anywhere I wanted to go or I could create my own map to a place and share with others.  I would rate this app a 7 out of 10.
Map Me- Maps http://www.mapme.com/
Map Me is a free online tool that you can register with and create a map of your favorite places and connect it to your google maps on you cellular device! Once an account has been created it is super easy to put together your own map of places you like to visit or where you would like to go.  Very good quality was used to create this tool and very convenient because you can link it to your cell phone for portable directions with just one click.  I would use this tool when I travel and recommend it to anyone who likes to travel.  On a scale from 1-10 I rate this a 10.
Shapecollage - Photos and Graphics  http://www.shapecollage.com/
Shapecollage is an online tool that is used to create collages of numerous photos for no charge.  However, with some of the features to edit the pictures you must buy Shapecollage pro.  With the basic aspects of the tool you can add as many pictures as you want and make a collage with special affects.  This tool was very simple to figure out and use with everything I have learned this semester.  I would recommend this program to people who love to share many photos put together.  The quality and design was great with no apparent glitches.  There is even included a “ how to” video which makes using the program a lot simpler.  I would rate this program a 6 out of 10.
Pixlr- Photos and Graphics http://pixlr.com/
This program is broke down into three different free online tools: Pixlr Editor, Pixlr Express, and Pixlr O-Matic.  Very simple to use, especially the Pixlr Editor because it reminded me a lot of SVG edit.  Well designed on line tool that really broke it down to explain how to use it well.  I would use this tool to quickly and easily edit photos and display.  I would also recommend this to anyone who enjoys enhancing their pictures.  There were no apparent glitches to the tool and had an excellent quality.  I would rate this tool a 7 out of 10.
Dvolver is a real simple made movie maker all online and free.  Its very simple to use and can easily be used to entertain children.  It is well developed with decent quality, but did involve some minor glitches.  I would use this tool just for fun and a good laugh, because I really see no point in making a short movie mainly with using templates.  I would recommend this program for anyone that enjoys animation and making their own short film.  I rate this tool a 2 out of 10.
Highlight Cam- Video Tools https://www.highlightcam.com/

Highlight Cam is a quick and easy way to edit and make short videos to download or share online.  One could even turn it into a payment method.  This program include step by step instructions on how to create the videos.  Each page has good quality and no issues that I could tell.  I would suggest this to one who loves to watch and make their own videos especially those who post to youtube.  I would use this to create and keep memories and to just share something I would want others to see I videod and made.  I would rate this tool a 4 out of 10.

I wanted to name my blog “The Small Life” because that’s all I have really ever known.  There are plenty of ways to make use of time to replace boredom, even when refunds and resources are limited.  Especially if one lives in a town where there is absolutely nothing to go out and do.  Some want fame and fortune and to have a lot of money, and others just want to avoid life in the fast line and enjoy a simple life or “The Small Life.” And that’s exactly who this blog is for.  The theme and back ground for my blog is just a very simple and plain pink layout to emphasize the simplicity.  Nothing has ever been too fancy, nor have I ever wanted anything too fancy. When I was a kid my mom had a daycare and she always found ways to keep us occupied.  Rather it was outside when the weather was nice or even when it was storming we always had activities to do inside.  As I grew older though I enjoyed spending all my name outdoors.  It never took much to keep me entertained from riding horses, to fourwheelers and even just hunting I was always outdoors.  “To poke a wood fire is more solid enjoyment than almost anything else in the world.” – Charles Dudley Warner And that’s just where a lot of entertainment comes from when your from a small town.  Gather up a few friends head out to a field and burn a brush pile makes for a cheap but wonderful night! All you need is a safe place to burn, wood, and what would a fire be without some marshmellows to rost!  With the small life there are so many more activites one can do that is absolutley enjoyable! My favorite is just a huge fire with great friends!

Social networking can have its pros and cons.  However, here lately it is understood that there may be a few more cons than people first realized.  Social media is a great way to keep in touch with relatives who may live in a different town, state, and even various countries. Communication is the factor though, some fear that with the social networking traditional communication will become scarce.  In today's society technology has taken over every where one looks.  Hardly anyone writes letters, physical visits, and even in some cases simple phone calls.  Statistics say every month 90% of internet users in the U.S. use social media, most in a daily use.  One concern is all the pictures that are being posted online that are not age appropriate for the age group that tends to keep posting them.  Once I picture goes online it is there forever and anyone can have access to it rather they are on a friend list or not.  Not only pictures but also all information users put on social networking.  Secondly, this makes it so much easier for cyber bullying to occur.  This in fact may be one of the worse types of bullying, because now everyone can see it not just a certain few. Teens are the main victims of cyber bullying, some have even committed suicide over being bullied on a social network. Along the lines of being a cyber bully, one may not be who they say they are online. Physically in the "real world" one is how their peers see him, online can be a different story.  You can create a page on any social media sight and be whoever you want to be.  This can be very dangerous and develop stalkers, predators, and much more.  One can gather thousands of friends this way and might not know a single one.  I enjoy social media, I mainly use Facebook and as far as my friends list I have came into contact with almost every one.  I do not post as much as I should but I really enjoy scrolling through and seeing how friends and family are doing and enjoy the pictures each one puts up.  I appreciate having a way to connect with family that has been stationed over seas and currently live in a different state than me.  Social media sure has made things much easier especially keeping in contact with my brother and close friends in the armed services.  So of course everyone can see that social media can be beneficial and also harmfull.

Hey I'm Summer Chambers and I grew up in Nashville, just a normal small town of the south. I grew up living on a farm and would not trade anything about the life I have been handed! I am currently a recreation and natural resource management major at Henderson State.  I have always been a "daddy's girl" and could not think of a better role model.  He taught me the value of hard work, honesty, and how to be the best person I can be no matter what the circumstances.  I want to go into natural resource management because the environment has always had a big impact on my life and I have grown to enjoy nature.  With this degree I hope to work with Arkansas Game and Fish to  educate people about wildlife and try to help protect the habitats.  My blog "The Small Life", is to encourage  people to just enjoy life no matter where they live or from, how much money they have and to branch out and experience new things.  Growing up in a small town I never had the option to go down town and go to the mall or movies, we had to drive an hour for entertainment of that sort, all we had was the local Walmart.  Of course occasionally, especially as teenagers we got bored but we always managed to find something to get into.  Some of my favorite activities usually included fourwheelers, horses, fishing poles, and of course guns.  Various hobbies were more expensive than others so we always improvised. It all came down to we made every hobby unique and we enjoyed our own small lives in our small towns and it still continues!
